Aftercare

After knee replacement

Stiffness, swelling and confidence after TKR — where osteopathy fits and where physiotherapy leads.

Symptoms and what they can mean

Swelling that tightens the knee by evening, a click that worries you, and stairs that feel like a negotiation. Most of this is expected. Calf pain with breathlessness is not.

What we can do in clinic

I can help the lumbar spine, hip and foot share work so the new knee is not doing everything. Range and strength programmes belong with physio. Come with your protocol if you have one.

Red flags and when to see your GP

Hot swollen knee with fever, or a calf that is tight, red and breathless — urgent medical care. DVT is not an osteopathic diagnosis to sit on.

This article is general information for people considering care at Health at Hart in Hartley Wintney. It is not a diagnosis, a prescription, or a promise of outcome. If you have sudden, severe or unexplained symptoms — including chest pain, unexplained weight loss, night pain, bowel or bladder changes, or a new neurological problem — seek urgent medical advice (NHS 111 or 999). UK osteopaths are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council. Counsellors named here are BACP-registered where stated. Always check with your GP or insurer if you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
