A band of iron next to the spine after a bend. It is protection. Forcing it to let go with aggressive work can pick a fight with your nervous system.

What we can do in clinic

I work with it: gentle movement, breathing, and restoring neighbouring joints so the spasm has less to do. Walking often beats lying still.

Red flags and when to see your GP

Spasm with true neurological loss or trauma — medical first.
