Symptoms and what they can mean

People point to one side of the belt line, worse with stairs or getting out of the car. The sacroiliac joints can be irritable, especially around pregnancy, but the lumbar spine and hip refer here too. Guessing from a Google image is how you treat the wrong joint.

What we can do in clinic

Examination includes lumbar movement, hip rotation and pelvic landmarks. Treatment is gentle where ligaments are more lax. I will not “crack the pelvis back in” as a party trick.

Red flags and when to see your GP

If you are pregnant and have bleeding, reduced fetal movements, or calf swelling, call maternity services. Fever with pelvic pain is medical.
