Your first osteopathy appointment: what to expect

A 60-minute first visit with Steve Hall at Health at Hart — history, examination, treatment and the questions you will be asked about work, sleep and daily life.

Hands-on treatment in a cream clinic

We start with questions, not techniques

Before any treatment we take a full medical assessment. I ask about your symptoms, your medical history, and your day-to-day routine — diet, exercise, work and what is happening in your life. Those details often explain more than a scan would at this stage.

Wear clothes you can move in. You will not be asked to do anything that feels unsafe. Follow-up visits are 40 minutes. The initial session is £80; follow-ups £70, payable at the end of the appointment.

Consent and dignity

I explain what I would like to do and why. You can say no to any technique. If you would prefer a chaperone, say so when you book.

After you leave

Some people feel sore for a day, similar to starting a new exercise. That is not a rule. I will tell you what I would like you to do before the next visit — walking, desk changes, or simply noticing what aggravates symptoms — so the treatment is not a closed box.

Always check with your GP or insurer if you are unsure whether a treatment is appropriate for you.
