Exam pressure and young people

Gia Bird on GCSEs, A-levels and the body that will not sleep — counselling that does not add another tutor.

What this can look like

Revision that has become panic. A stomach every morning. A young person who was able, and now cannot start. Parents who are frightened and therefore louder.

How counselling can help

I work with young people and with parents. We look at the pressure, the identity tied to grades, and what rest is still allowed. This is not a study-skills workshop. ACSFleet sits alongside for some families — I will be clear about hats.

When it is more than counselling

If a young person cannot eat, cannot leave the house, or is talking about not wanting to be here, that is GP, school safeguarding and crisis routes — not a wait for results day.
