The Year 6 to Year 7 jump

A new school, a longer day, a smaller fish — Gia Bird on counselling around one of the loudest transitions.

What this can look like

Stomach aches that are mysteriously better in holidays. A child who managed primary and now cannot get through the gate. Sleep that slipped in June.

How counselling can help

We work with the fear, the sensory load of a bigger site, and the parent who is also grieving a smaller world. Short-term work around a transition can be enough. It can also uncover something that was already there.

When it is more than counselling

Persistent physical symptoms, or a child who is not themselves — GP as well as school. Do not wait until October if September is already a crisis.
